Familiar Phrases

1.Sentence completion:  Joel prophesied , The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into
blood, Before the coming of the ..."

2. Paul in Romans echoed Joel's promise of deliverance,  "That whoever calls on ....."

3. Fill in the blanks: Joel advised the gentile nations to prepare for war: "Beat your plowshares into  
-------- And your pruning hooks into  --------- ; Let the weak say, "I am strong."

1. "Great and terrible day of the Lord" (Joel 2:31).

 

 

2. "The name of the Lord Shall be saved" (Joel 2:32; Rom. 10:13).  Joel anticipated deliverance from the physical disaster of the day of the Lord. Paul anticipated deliverance from the spiritual disaster of judgment for sin.

 

 

3. "Swords...spears" (Joel 3:10). Isaiah and Micah, on the other hand, anticipated a time when Israel could beat its weapons into agricultural tools, the reverse of Joel's advice (Is 2:4; Mic. 4:3).
