Familiar Phrases

1. Fill in the blanks:  Matthew quoted this verse from Isaiah to note its fulfillment in Jesus, "The people who walked in  ---------  Have seen a great  ---------  ; Those who dwelt in the land of the   -------  of death, Upon them a light has shined." 

2. Sentence completion:  Isaiah predicted about the Messiah, "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us..."

3. Isaiah predicted, "There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse..."


 
 
1. "Darkness...light...shadow" ( Is. 9:2).
 
 
 
2. "A Son is given; And the government will be upon  His shoulder. And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor. Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (Is. 9:6). These  names reveal the deity of Christ as well as the majesty of His activity as Messiah.
 
 
3. "And a Branch shall grow out of his roots" (Is. 11:1). Jesse, David's father, was like an old tree from which sprang a new shoot that would overshadow the old.
