Epistles--General

1. Multiple choice: According to 2 Corinthians 11, how many times had Paul  been beaten  by the Jews? (a) Three times; (b) five times; or (c) seven times.

2. When Paul received stripes from the Jews for preaching the gospel, how many stripes did he receive each time he was beaten? (a) Twenty; (b) forty; or (c) thirty-nine.

1. (b) Five times (2 Cor. 11:24).

2. (c) Thirty-nine (2 Cor. 11:24).

The Jews were to give no more than forty stripes when they
were punishing someone. They would stop one blow short so that,
if they had miscounted , they would not violate the letter of the Law.
