The Military In The National Entity

The protection of a national entity. A national entity is protected in 

two ways: (1) interior protection, which is objectivity in law and good

law enforcement; (2) exterior protection, which is the military estadlishment.

The principle of the military establishment goes back to the days of Abraham

when, with a small but well-trained army, he defeated the superior forces of 

Chedorlaomer  (Gen.14).

"I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

Intelligent Demobilization

And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my 

servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held 

both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; 

and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah (Neh. 4:16).

They (the demobilized troops) which builded on the wall,

and they that bear burdens (the rock carries), with those that 

laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work,

and with the other group (literally) held a weapon (Neh.4:17).

We could sure learn a lesson from  the Bible about national 

security. Of course for maybe 200 years we did.

"The Lord shall open unto thee His good treasure."

Deuteronomy 28:12

O Lord, let my life reflect the joy You have put into my heart,

that Your name may be glorified.

Be Prepared

Military Preparation Prevents Wars

And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known

unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we 

returned all of us to the wall,every one unto his work (Neh. 4:15.)

The crisis passed without a battle. Why? Because they were ready

to fight! Being prepared to fight is the greatest deterrent to war.

But the Jews did learn from Bible doctrine and from their own

history.

God the Holy Spirit is telling us something in verse 15: there is a 

relationship between spiritual life and military preparation.

"Forgive, and ye shall be forgiven."

Luke 6:37

Heavenly Father, since I want to be forgiven, help me be forgiving.

Faith--Rest

"Remember the Lord " in time of war, and remember the Lord of 

Host is "great and terrible." The word 'terrible" means "a mighty 

warrior." Remember that the Lord is a mighty  Warrior! Nehemiah

was telling them to use the faith-rest technique, in view of divine

essence! Remember 1 Samuel 17:47, "The battle is the Lord's" ;

remember  2 Chronicles 20:15, "Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be

not afraid, nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the

battle is not yours, but God's". You have Bible doctrine---use it!

"Remember the Lord, who is a great and a mighty Warrior."

" I am the door : by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved

 and shall go in and out, and find pasture"

John 10:9

Lord, thank You for canceling my sentence of death.

Human Viewpoint

Civilian Preparation

Look again at the last phrase of verse 13: "with their swords, with

their spears, and with their bows." They had weapons, and they knew

how to use them. They had the means to protect their country and their

loved ones.

And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and

to the rest of the people, Be ye not afraid of them: remember the Lord,

which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your

daughters, your wives, and your houses (Neh.4:14).

He wanted them to think divine viewpoint. So he encouraged them:

"Be ye not afraid!" Fear is a mental attitude sin; it is human viewpoint.

"Fear not" get the divine perspective!

"My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect

in weakness."  ( 2 Corinthians 12:9)

God help me to be aware of my limitations and to be willing and ready

to ask for Your help.

Nehemiah Took Charge

The enemy stated two of their objectives; "Slay them, and cause the 

work to cease". These four armies knew the value of the military and

military defenses; therefore, they wanted to make sure that these defenses

were never established. This should tell you something about the Jew of 

the ancient world: like his counterpart in modern Israel he was courageous,

he was a great soldier; he was a great fighter!

And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they

said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us they

will be upon you (Neh. 4:12). 

 

Therefore set I the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places,

I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and 

their bows (Neh. 4:13). 

 

This verse demonstrates  that Nehemiah understood strategy and tactics.

 

"Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee,

and thou shalt glorify Me.

Psalm 50:15

Father, give me the wisdom You have promised to those who seek You.

A Surprise Attack

And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see

(conspiracy), till we come in the midst among them, and slay

them, and cause the work to cease (Neh. 4:11).

Who were their adversaries? They were the Samaritans, the

Arabs, the Philistines and the Ammonites. Four armies had 

converged on Jerusalem, and they had already formed an 

alliance and made their plans. What  were their plans? Surprise

attack! A Pearl Harbor type of attack. The enemy was saying.

"They will never know what hit them; we have the advantage

of surprise."  But the advantage of surprise was offset by the

fact the Jewish army was a well-trained, well- organized, well-

functioning army, ready for battle.

 

 "Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you."

1 Peter 5:7
